German-German History after 1945

Since 1961 not only a national border massively sealed off by GDR border troops, but also a metre-high wall through Berlin separated the real-socialist dictatorship in the East from parliamentary democracy in the West – and with it, living spaces, families and circles of friends. In 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall brought about the reunification of the two states. But how did the citizens of East and West live? Were things different on either side of the wall? We focus on different aspects of life in East and West Germany and shed light on similarities, differences and the path to German unity.
