Papyrus
Papyrus was probably the most important writing medium in antiquity. It was produced from the pith of the papyrus plant. Documented for the first time in the 3rd millennium BC, papyrus was used not only by the ancient Egyptians, but also throughout the entire Greco-Roman world – and fortunately has often survived the centuries. In the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek you can find impressive images of this historically significant writing material.
