Heinrich Zille‘s Berlin
To this day, Heinrich Zille (1858-1929) is one of the best-known and most popular artists in Berlin. Zille drew and photographed scenes from everyday life in Berlin, his “Milljöh” – from playing children to workers to streets and fairgrounds. Zille's work shows us a rapidly growing Berlin in times of industrialisation, including its dark sides. Poverty and hardship are therefore the focus, but also for biographical reasons.
